MFA Turkey 300x273 Ankara condemns so called elections in breakaway KarabakhTurkey does not recognize the “presidential elections” in the “NKR”.

The website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey has posted a statement regarding the so-called “presidential elections” to be held in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan under Armenian occupation.

The statement said that the self-proclaimed “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” will elect the so-called “President” in contradiction to all norms of international law on 19 July 2012.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry indicates that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains the main obstacle to peace, stability and cooperation in the South Caucasus region and hampers the good-neighborly relations between the peoples in the region.

Turkey strongly condemns these so-called “elections”, calling it a demarche and another violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. Turkey does not recognize the “presidential elections” in the “NKR” and considers them illegal and inconsistent with the norms of international law, the statement reads.
