Moldavian OMEGA agency reported last week that Armenia bought 60 tons of weapons from Moldova through a front company in Latvia. The cargo was taken out of Kishinev on two flights on 13 and 14 September, by a Il-76 plane belonging to Armenia.
According to the Defense Ministry, the cargo consisted of artillery and anti-tank systems.
This batch of arms was exported to Armenia, but the transaction was signed by a Latvian company registered in Riga, according to Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova, Valery Lazar .
“The plane belongs to Armenia, the batch of used weapons was purchased by Latvia, and, according to the certificate of final destination which is required in such cases, the goods must arrive in Armenia”, said Lazar. Armenia denies purchasing the arms.
